The near future.
Jeff Rover has just moved from London to Starbase, a rocket city of hyperloops, delivery drones and driverless cybercabs.
He is good at games and great at building apps by talking to his AI. So one weekend he builds a translator collar for the family pets.
It works far too well.
Laika the dog can hear what people are thinking. Glitch the cat can talk to machines and move metal with his mind. Nobody is supposed to know that animals like them exist.
Then Jeff’s dad disappears, eleven days before the next launch to Mars. And the most famous man in Starbase wants Laika and Glitch back.
